The Senate Agriculture Committee is moving forward with the 2018 Farm Bill Revival in a reportedly ‘bipartisan’ fashion and has released its draft of the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018.

Ryan Stroschein of K·Coe Isom’s Federal Affairs team says, “Given the importance of this legislation to farmers, particularly in light of the challenging economic conditions in agriculture today, it is encouraging to see a strong consensus bill emerge that should move quickly.”

Unlike the House version, which was voted down last month, the Senate farm bill revival preserves funding for the Conservation Stewardship Program and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program. Additionally, it looks promising that the Senate’s draft includes strong support for vital risk management tools like the crop insurance program.

K·Coe Isom’s Federal Affairs team is still looking into the specifics of the legislation, but recognize that it maintains much of the successful structure of the current Farm Bill and we are encouraged with the Senate’s starting point.

K·Coe Isom will continue to provide updates surrounding the latest on potential Farm Bill provisions. Should you have any questions, please contact our Federal Affairs team.
