Have you ever wondered what happens when sustainability leaders from across the food and agriculture industry gather under one roof? Uncover inspiration, practical advice, networking secrets, and unexpected lessons from first-time attendees at the Sustainable Ag Summit (SAS).
What made first-time attendees’ experience special?
The recent conference brought together sustainability leaders from across the food and agriculture industry for a week of learning, sharing, and connection. For first-time attendees, including a few of our own Pinion team members, the experience was both inspiring and eye-opening. SAS provides an opportunity to meet professionals who have been shaping sustainability for decades and to engage with peers navigating similar challenges. From interactive learning sessions to networking events, the conference offers countless ways to exchange ideas and build meaningful relationships.
“We call it the super bowl of sustainable agriculture for a reason,” says Pinion sustainability manager Louis DeMaso. “One of the greatest benefits of attending SAS is the sense of community it creates.”
Sustainability leaders face unique challenges and sometimes feel isolated in their organization. The conference provides a welcoming environment to share experiences and discover solutions. It’s also a great way for emerging sustainability leaders to learn about programs and resources to support their organization’s sustainability journey.
Attendees can expect to connect with experts who have been in their shoes. These conversations not only spark new ideas but also remind us that no one is tackling the complexities of sustainability alone.
How can future attendees get the most out of the conference?
Our advisors have been attending the Sustainable Ag Summit for years and found there are three things attendees can do to make the most of their experience.
- Preparation is key. Take some time to investigate who will be attending and who you want to connect with. Outline your current challenges and goals, as well as what you’d like to learn so you’re ready to make the most of each conversation.
- Be intentional with your time. With numerous sessions happening concurrently and designed for a wide range of audiences, using the conference app to map out your priorities can make all the difference.
The conference features a diverse lineup of sessions, covering topics such as GHG accounting, packaging innovation, animal health and welfare, value chain partnerships, creative financing opportunities, regenerative agriculture, and data sharing, among others. With programming designed for participants from animal protein, specialty crops, technology providers, and beyond, it’s important for attendees to review the agenda in advance and identify which sessions will be most relevant and impactful for their organization.
- Get out of your comfort zone. “While the scale of the conference can feel overwhelming at times, embrace the discomfort and take advantage of the networking opportunities as they come can open doors to valuable connections,” says DeMaso.
Participants at SAS represent a broad spectrum of roles, from farmers and early-career analysts to chief sustainability officers and industry experts.
“Each conversation is a chance to expand your network and help build tomorrow together, said DeMaso.”
