Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Commodity and specialty crop producers can benefit from this service. Future development plans include livestock and dairy operations.

Snapshot uses many of the same underlying farm financial standards, but most university tools are self-service and don’t include personalized consulting or in-depth diagnostics. Only SnapShot includes:

  • Guided support and consulting throughout the process
  • Additional proprietary benchmarks beyond standard financial ratios
  • Evaluation of both financial performance and operational efficiency
  • Ability to preview results and ask questions throughout

No, we do not sell or share your data. All information is confidential.

  • Your data is used only to create your report and generate benchmarking insights.
  • Benchmarking is aggregated and anonymized; individual farms cannot be identified.
  • Participation in benchmarking is optional. If you opt out, your data is not included; however, benchmarking comparisons will not be available to you.

We collect key financial and operational data across your entire farm operation, including:

  • Market value balance sheets for all farm-related entities
  • Profit and loss statements (or detailed income and expense records) for a single crop year
  • Labor information, including workforce structure and hours worked

It is important that all entities connected to the farming operation are included to ensure an accurate, whole-farm analysis. For example:

  • If land is owned under a separate entity and rented to the farm, that entity must be included
  • If there are separate entities for equipment, trucking, or hauling, those should also be included

We analyze all data together to provide a complete picture of financial performance and operational efficiency.

There are flexible options depending on your preference:

  • Self-entry: You input the data, and we review and validate it
  • Hybrid approach: You provide some data, and we complete it together
  • Consultant-led: We handle most of the data entry using your records

This depends on how prepared your records are. If your records (balance sheet, P&L, labor data) are well prepared, it typically takes 2–3 months from data submission to review meeting. In some cases, the process may be completed sooner depending on timing and availability.

SnapShot works for both individuals and groups.

For individual farmers:

  • Personalized analysis and benchmarking

For groups and associations:

  • Compare performance across members
  • Benchmark a group against the broader dataset
  • Provide insights for specific producer groups or organizations

No, it is not a forecasting tool.

  • It analyzes historical data (typically the most recent crop year)
  • The goal is to understand what happened and why

If you are looking for forecasting or projections, other Farm Business Management tools are available to support that need.
